In one of Uber’s more furry marketing schemes, today marks the company’s latest UberKUCING promotion, where users get to enjoy “15 minutes of kitten cuteness” on demand.
As the company launches its 6th city in Malaysia , Kuching in Sarawak, on Wednesday 14th September Uber will deliver kittens customers in conjunction with Paws Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in Petaling Jaya and PetFinder.my.
Here’s how it works:
- Make sure you have an enclosed space suitable for cats.
- Open your Uber app between 11am and 4pm.
- Request the “KUCING” option in your app.
- If kittens are available, kittens will be brought to your address for 15 minutes.
As Uber calls it, it’s a RM30 “snuggle fee” with all proceeds going to support PAWS. It’s also possible to talk to the local PAWS representative assisting with your kitten delivery about adopting. When the company ran UberKITTENS in the USA recently, they helped over 300 kittens find permanent homes.
FAQs
Here arethe FAQs from Uber’s announcement:
Q: Can I donate more than RM30?
A: Definitely! Let an Uber team member know once at the end of the 15 mins and they can adjust the donation amount. You can also use the ‘Split Fare’ option in the app to donate with your friends and colleagues at the end of your visit.
Q: Can I get a receipt for my donation?
A: PAWS Malaysia will be issuing receipts post the event and will be in touch with you via email if you managed to book #UberKUCING via the app, or make sure that your details are noted if the donation was made in person.
Q: Can the kittens play with other animals?
A: We ask that if there are any other animals that they are in another room for the safety of the kittens.
Q: Are the kittens up for adoption?
A: These kitties are PAWS kittens and most will not be available for adoption just yet. If you do want to adopt, just ask the PAWS rep! Adoption info will be left behind after each visit too.
Q: Isn’t this event stressful/dangerous for the kittens?
A: The kittens are being handled by knowledgeable PAWS staff and volunteers who are constantly monitoring their well-being and stress levels. Kittens will be given time for rest and relaxation during the day.
Q: We tried to order a kitten car and weren’t able to get one.
A: Unfortunately we can only make a limited number of deliveries to ensure that kittens are not out for too long of a period of time. We only have a limited number of kittens available from PAWS, but we encourage those who do not receive a delivery to come out and visit the adoptable kittens in person.
