Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Malaysia moved up the world’s list of most competitive countries from 16th to 14th position in a recent survey carried out by the Institute for Management Development (IMD). Based in Switzerland, the IMD carries out an annual survey to measure 59 countries’ global competitiveness. It is based on four main criteria: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure.

These are then broken down into over 300 subcategories. In 2012, Hong Kong ranked first in the world followed by the USA, Switzerland, and Singapore.
Malaysia showed the most improvement in terms of business efficiency, rising from 14th position to 6th and government efficiency going up four places from 17th to14th position. Malaysia performed worst in health, the environment, and scientific infrastructure.
