The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will soon be linking its system with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), to enable the council to blacklist vehicles with outstanding summons.

Those with outstanding summons issued by MBPJ for traffic and parking offences will be blacklisted, and won’t be able to renew their road tax, according to an article in The Star newspaper.

“Currently, offenders need only settle summonses that are issued by the traffic police or JPJ for offences that include using hand phones while driving, speeding, running the red light at traffic junction and driving with an expired road tax, before they can renew their road tax,” the report states.

“MBPJ issues compounds to motorists who do not display parking coupons, who double park or park on grass verges and at non-designated parking areas. For offences such as these in areas under the council’s jurisdiction, the fine is RM100. Traffic offenders are also given a grace period to appeal against the fine.”

Many traffic offenders choose to ignore their summonses as it does not affect their road tax renewal. But once the link up is finalized, no one will be able to renew their road tax without first settling all of their traffic summonses.

The report also states that between January and August 2012, 40,035 compounds were issued, but only 9,953 were settled.  

    To check or pay your traffic summons online;

• You can pay via credit card at MYEG
• Please register with the website if you are a first time user
• Login/Register with your username and password
• Select the appropriate link to check and pay your summons online.
• If you are foreigner, you can check your summon by providing your passport number and choose “Non Malaysian Resident” at the category option.
