Motorist cruising along the winding road leading to the famous Batu Ferringhi beach can now breathe a sigh of relief as they no longer have to worry about a landslide caused by soil erosion on the slopes. Retaining walls are currently being built to prevent landslides as the slopes are prone to it, especially during rainy weather.
Traffic flow may be a little slow at the moment as the Works Department has engaged two contractors to clear the slope with a backhoe before building the perimeter walls. Construction is expected to be completed in two weeks and the wall is said to be 3.5 metre high from the road.
The move to build this wall came after a recent landslide during a morning rush hour, which caused a tree and boulders to tumble down the road, barely missing the vehicles on the road.
