It’s that time of year again, where Christmas is around the corner and the school holidays are just weeks away.  While most children take this opportunity to sleep in late or catch up with their friends outside of school, it is also a good time to sharpen their skills and hobbies. Many educational and art centres as well as associations in Kuala Lumpur are now offering various programmes for children to explore. From science and robotics to sports, why not get involved with holiday camps in and around Kuala Lumpur? Here’s a few different types of camps that piqued our interest.

Educational Workshops

The EMS School Break Camp is designed to keep children active while learning English. There are three separate age-appropriate programmes available – for ages 6 to 8, ages 9 to 12 and ages 13 to 15. Programmes for the younger age group focuses on the basics like grammar, reading, creative writing, and storytelling skills while the elder children get involved in clubs, such as debate, drama, poetry, and book clubs.

Technology

Interested in the world of technology? Why not be a part of the December Holiday Camp Marathon by Chumbaka! The programmes run at two Digital Maker Hubs in Cyberjaya and Puchong, focusing on innovative technological building projects. Courses include hands-on learning with coding and robotics, as well as programmes on how to invent mobile apps.

Arts and Theatre

KL Shakespeare Players have come up with a three-day Theatre and Acting Skills-Camp. Limited to only 24 participants, the programme will take place from 4th December to 6th December and lead by Gregory Henno, a French actor, director, writer, and theatre-trainer.

Outdoors and Nature

Calling “Young Ecologists”! The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) and the Malaysian Nature Society have come up with a three-day programme, focusing on the rainforest as well as observing the flora and fauna at FRIM. Those aged 8 to 14 years are welcome to be a part of their jungle exploration.

Sports

Think your child is the next Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? The Heroes Youth Football Leadership is designed to equip children with the skills to be a leader of influence and integrity, applicable either on the field or in the real world. Registration is open for boys and girls 10 to 17 years old.
