Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Daily life can get a bit mundane, even when taking in the leisure activities that are readily available around us. Though at times we may be a little spoilt for choice, it’s not unusual to crave something different once in a while. Here are a few lesser-known outdoor activities that you can check out, perfect for small and larger groups.

1. Batu Caves Rock Climbing

While many may choose to climb up the 272 steps into Batu Caves, you can also opt to scale the side of the cave with some rock climbing. Verticale offers a half-day session, which is suitable for beginners right up to expert climbers seeking an adrenaline rush. According to their website, you don’t have to be an experienced rock climber to partake in the climb – all you need is the enthusiasm and willingness to try! Children as young as 5 years are also welcome.

They’re open Monday to Friday from 12pm to 8pm and 11am to 6pm on Saturdays.

2. Skiing

Who says skiing is only for those in cold climes? First Traxx is Malaysia’s first indoor ski and snowboarding centre and offers hour-long sessions to prepare you for when you do visit snow-capped mountains. It’s also a good way to get started in these sports, with instructors and support structures in place to assist newbies. It is also said that this is more difficult than the real deal because the artificial surface requires a higher level of precision. Have a look at some of the things in store there.

3. Flyboarding

Pretty cool, right? Flyboarding requires some training and can be booked here for either a group or individual session. The activity is currently available on weekends and public holidays only, which requires an advance booking. Be sure to bring a change of clothes, swimming attire, and a positive attitude!

4. Waterfall Abseiling

Instead of just taking a dip in a pond or standing under a waterfall, why not abseil through it? The Facebook page Waterfall Abseiling Malaysia has packages available. In this activity, you get to be among experienced people, and not only that, they also have camps and caving activities in different parts of the country!

5. Diving with Sharks

If you’re even more of a water person, then perhaps being underwater next to a shark (literally) will get your heart beating faster! Aquaria KLCC offers this experience in their 2.5 million-litre oceanarium, where you will encounter five different shark species, along with other creatures of the ocean. You may need to be a certified diver for this but alternatively, the Cage Rage is available for those who don’t have a diving licence!
