If you’re a golfer, you don’t want to miss this terrific opportunity to play one of Langkawi’s finest courses over a fun-filled tropical island weekend. The Rotary Club of Langkawi (RCL) has teamed up with the beautiful, award-winning Els Club at Teluk Datai to offer a weekend of world-class golf at the RCL Masters Golf Tournament, with proceeds going to fund the many worthwhile community service initiatives of the Rotary Club as it celebrates the fifth anniversary of its Langkawi chapter during 2018.
Stunning scenery and an international-standard course are the order of business at the magnificent Els Club Teluk Datai, situated on Langkawi’s northwest coast. Nestled masterfully within a million-year-old rainforest with towering lush tropical foliage meandering its way towards the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea beneath the marbled limestone peaks of the Mat Chinchang Mountain range, the course at the Els Club Teluk Datai is truly a sight to behold. It’s not for nothing that the club was named at the World Golf Awards as both Asia’s Best New Golf Course and the World’s Best New Golf Course upon its opening back in 2014.
Rotary Club: Spirit Of Service
A laudable service organisation with a remarkable track record over its 112-year existence, Rotary International has over 34,000 clubs worldwide with some 1.2 million members, all seeking to play a part in an organization whose stated purpose is “to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.”
The small island of Langkawi, Malaysia chartered its own Rotary Club in March 2013, and it didn’t take long for the Club to start making a positive impact on the island. For two years, its signature annual project was cleaning up the Kilim Karst River, one of Langkawi’s most important waterways and an integral part of Langkawi’s UNESCO Geopark. This year will see a repeat effort from 2017 through the Rotary Club’s initiative called “The Gift of Sight.” This terrific effort provides prescriptions, spectacles, and even cataract surgeries for underprivileged adults and children in Langkawi, with an additional objective of helping Langkawi’s hospital acquire an eye laser machine, a costly medical device that’s typically used in eye trauma cases.
Beyond these initiatives, however, the Club does plenty more throughout the year, and charitable events such as the 2018 RCL Masters Golf Tournament play an important role in helping the Club fund its service-oriented endeavours on Langkawi Island. Last year’s RCL Masters Golf Tournament was a remarkable success, and the Rotary Club and partners The Westin Langkawi and St. Regis Langkawi are aiming to build on that success this year.
Event Partners
Two brands under the extensive umbrella of Marriott International, The Westin Langkawi and The St. Regis Langkawi, operate neighbouring resorts on the island’s southeast coast, offering top-of-class comfort and luxury. The former, one of the pioneering five-star properties in Langkawi, has also been a leader in wellness and hospitality for more than a decade, showcasing the brand’s six pillars of Well-Being: Feel Well, Work Well, Move Well, Eat Well, Sleep Well, and Play Well.
St. Regis, meanwhile, opened its Langkawi resort in 2016 as the pinnacle of tropical island indulgence. The management and staff of both these properties are to be commended for their commitment to the RCL Masters Golf Tournament and to the exemplary community service that it helps to fund. Such support highlights the fact that these resorts do not exist as mere properties here, insulated from the island they call home, but rather that they are a real part of the fabric of Langkawi’s community, and, through both their financial support and tireless team efforts, play a meaningful role in the lives of the people who live here.
This is the third consecutive year for both of these outstanding resorts to jointly support this worthwhile cause, and given their reputation for excellence, it all but goes without saying the gala dinner that will wrap up the event this year is not to be missed!
If you’re interested in a wonderful weekend of golf and camaraderie for a good cause, be sure to join in for what’s certain to be a great time on Saturday, April 28, 2018. An entrance fee of just RM600 per golfer covers an 18-hole round of golf at this remarkable world-class course, complete with GPS-fitted buggy rental and caddy, a quality golf shirt, a goodie bag, and a brilliant gala dinner to be held at The Westin Langkawi on Saturday night, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs, along with a fun charity auction! If you’re not a golfer, but just want to enjoy the sumptuous dinner and support a good cause, dinner-only registration is available for just RM220 per person. It’s a good time and supports a truly great organisation.
