39 volunteers – comprised of 20 Briged Sukarelawan NSTP-Media Prima members, 3 ntv7 employees, 3 Epic Collaborative Sdn Bhd event coordinators , 8 core team members and 5 Taylor’s University students – have pulled together to erect a new house in Batang Kali for a local Orang Asli family. Suris John, his wife Esah Acheh and their children watched on in delight this past weekend as this devoted group of individuals, hailing from varying backgrounds, raised the edifice of their new two-bedroom single story house.
The volunteer’s efforts came as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Project (CSR): an initiative founded by Management Delivery Unit (Pemandu), Media Prima Bhd and Epic Collaborative Sdn Bhd.
Dr. Chua Hong Teck, Pemandu’s director of Healthcare and Low Income Households, has stated that the CSR is part of the Government Transformation Programme 2.0 (GTP 2.0), which endeavors to improve standards of living and healthcare for Orang Asli and Penan communities throughout the peninsular.
“We want to encourage more corporations to hold CSR projects such as this, which helps vulnerable groups, like the Orang Asli.” Said Dr. Chua. “We can help the less fortunate by putting a proper roof over their heads, so that they can concentrate on building a better life for their families.”
Chua has reaffirmed his commitment to spreading information about volunteerism and the benefits of social unity.
