Why go on an extreme diet when it’s so delicious and increasingly convenient to eat healthily? And we’re not talking about just salads or smoothies, too. There are so many new and innovative dishes being created to deliver a punch of nutrients while tasting fabulous, that are just waiting to be discovered. From healthy versions of nasi kerabu to steaming pots of vegetables and meats, here’s a list of where to find healthy eats around KL.

Fittie Sense, Bangsar

Located on the same row as Cziplee, Fittie Sense is a great place for made-from-scratch options. Pictured above is their Lamb kofte pita – a compact macro package comprising proteins from the lamb and whole-wheat, fats from the free-range egg yolk aioli, and wholesome carbs. Other dish examples include Avocado toast (coconut oil scrambled eggs, avocado, and sumac on wheat-free toast); Protein paleo stack (grilled chicken chop, sweet potato mash, two mollet eggs, asparagus, broccoli, pepitas, and sunflower seeds), and a dessert called Orange polenta cake.

Mama Kim Sauna Mee, Desa Sri Hartamas

Mama Kim Sauna Mee uses hand-crafted hot stone bowls that are placed in a special oven for 50 minutes and heated up to 250 Celsius. They follow a 80/20 rule for a balanced combination of meat and more than five healthy colours of vegetables. Even the preparation of ingredients is thought out, where Ocean Minerals Salt is used to wash them. Dishes are prepared in five different ways – simmered, boiled, fried, baked, and steamed. Some examples include Baked cheesy mushroom rice, Boiled black porridge, and Wild mushroom fried rice.

The Good Co., Bangsar

Located within the Bon Estate just opposite Bangsar Shopping Centre, The Good Co. is a convenient place to try for Bangsar-dwellers. For an idea of what to expect, pictured above is their Nasi Lemak Beckham – butterfly pea brown rice, healthy sambal, free-range egg, kyuri, tempeh, roasted peanuts, cherry tomatoes, and rendang monkey head mushroom. There’s also artisan sandwiches, salad pots, soups, smoothie bowls, ‘jars of goodness’, granolas, and cold-pressed juices.

Ours Eatery, DC Mall

If you’re a fan of build-your-own bowls, check out this place in DC Mall. Ours Eatery serves up naked bowls, wraps, ‘sensational sweets’, and snacks. For breakfast, there’s dishes like Oatmeal nasi lemak and Greek yoghurt bowl,while all-day favourites include things like Chicken enchiladas and Mexican street corn chowder. Their guilt-free dessert features Earl grey and Buckwheat cookies, Chocolicious (sweet potato chocolate cake with almond butter ganache), and Your Highness (banana bread pudding made with bananas, eggs, organic oats, organic coconut oil & honey), among others.

As one might guess, this restaurant will cater to all your paleo needs. Some delicious sounding dishes include Paleo Thai pumpkin curry chicken with cauliflower rice, Pistachio-crusted salmon, and Aglio olio mushroom zoodles. There’s also cauliflower-based pizzas, vegetarian bowl options, and sides like Veggie sate and Raw veggies with guacamole, besides a good number of fresh fruit and vegetable juice combinations.

Whether you’re looking for food on the go, or to sit down and have a meal, Oomph Cafe in Taman Desa is one to try if you haven’t. Choose from dishes like Black pepper beef tenderloin, Spicy lime tilapia, or Ginger minced chicken as well as Peanut butter or CheeseCake brownies for dessert. Their specialty is their Grab and Go options, or ‘instant meals’. Basically, cooked proteins are packaged to be easily microwavable and help you eat clean wherever you go.
