Delegations representing 6 major Asia cities were in Kuala Lumpur recently to attend the 12th Council for the Promotion of Tourism In Asia (CPTA).
The CPTA is made up of 8 member cities; Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hanoi, Bangkok, Jakarta, New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur with its secretariat based in Tokyo.
The CPTA was established with the main purpose to promote tourism to Asia, and specifically to the eight member cities, by promoting and cross-selling visits to the cities. This collaboration provides the opportunity for each of the eight cities to benefit through a number of initiatives and promotions that allow each member city to increase their appeal and reach when promoted as a group or multiple destinations. This concept of making Asia as a total destination by visiting more than one city is manifested in the ‘Welcome to Asia’ campaign.
This year’s meeting took place from the 3rd to the 4th of September and is hosted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall. One of the items on the agenda was the official launch of the One Asia Pass promotion, an initiative by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall that falls under the umbrella ‘Welcome To Asia’ campaign. The One Asia Pass is a tourism product that offers tourists a variety of privileges that include discounts, free gifts and other benefits when they visit any of the eight member cities of the CPTA.
The multiple appeal of each member city is promoted as a variety offering to tourists who are keen to experience the many facets of Asia. For example, tourists can be attracted to amazing foods in Tokyo and Taipei or relax in a spa in Jakarta and then enjoy the great shopping and the exciting night entertainment of Kuala Lumpur. With New Delhi, Bangkok and Hanoi each offering their own unique cultures and heritage attractions, the combination of cities will provide tourists with more reasons to stay longer and experience much more in Asia.
To enjoy the benefits of the One Asia Pass, tourists just need to sign-up for the programme online and download the various promotional vouchers as they like. Each of the eight member cities offers different privileges and benefits that are based in their respective cities. Tourists just need to visit the programme website at www.welcometoasia.jp to download the coupon for the offers.
