Thistle Port Dickson – part of Thistle Hotels & Resorts in Malaysia – a UK based hotel group owned by GuocoLand (Malaysia) Berhad, has finally chosen the winner of its Kids in Charge! Initiative.
Early June this year, Thistle Port Dickson embarked on a unique and perhaps trend-setting project to give children a direct voice in guiding the resort’s offerings for kids. The project was to set up a provisional advisory board called Kids in Charge! which comprised of kids aged between 7-12 year olds sitting on a board that meets to deliberate and suggest fun activities just for kids that can be implemented at Thistle Resorts & Hotels.
Kids interested in participating had to download the entry form (or got their parents to do so) from Thistle’s website, answer three questions, and obtain the consent of their parents/guardians to participate by way of their signature on the form.
A panel of six judges had the unenviable task of sifting through hundreds of applications to shortlist 16 finalists. A rigorous round of interviews was subsequently held with the finalists before ten winners were selected to make up the first Kids in Charge! Advisory Board.
After four board meetings with its first ever advisory board, the resort recently concluded its Kids in Charge! initiative with a ceremony to pay tribute to the Board members.
Thistle Port Dickson Resort also announced Adam Mrani, 12 years old, as the Grand Prize winner of the initiative. Adam won a 6 day/5 night stay at Thistle London for a family of four, with return air tickets to London, courtesy of SriLankan Airlines. He received his mock ticket from Mr Chinthaka Weerasinghe, Country Manager Malaysia, SriLankan Airlines and Mr John Murphy, General Manager of Thistle Port Dickson Resort.
“It was an awesome experience, in terms of what I learned and also the many friends I’ve made during the four Board Meetings,” said Adam who is a student at S.K. Seri Mega in Kuala Lumpur. “I’m glad I was able to actively contribute and be a good team player during the various projects we had to undertake as Board Members. What I’ve learned will stand me in good stead for years to come.”
Board members were judged by a panel of five judges, who adjudicated the members based on originality and creativity of ideas, as well as their overall performance over the four Board meetings.
Each Board member was also rewarded with complimentary passes to Legoland Malaysia and a certificate of appreciation.
