Kedah has declared 17 January as an ‘occasional holiday’ for the state in conjunction with Thaipusam.
According to Menteri Besar of Kedah, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir, the state holiday was declared after seeking consent from the Sultan of Kedah, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
Datuk Mukhriz also said that the state government will be making a request to declare Thaipusam as a public holiday in Kedah.
