Malaysia Airlines has established a codeshare agreement with Ethiopian Airlines allowing Malaysia Airlines to gain access to the capital Addis Ababa. With this new agreement, Malaysia Airlines will place its flight code on all Ethiopian Airlines’ services from Addis Ababa to Kuala Lumpur and back.
The Ethiopian Airlines flights are operated by a B767-300 with a two-class configuration: 24 seats in business and 208 in economy.
According to Malaysia Airlines, this new parnetship is solely to improve air connectivity with key markets overseas to increase tourist arrivals in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2014. There are no other added benefits such as bilateral mileage accrual and lounge access. Malaysia Airlines can now expand their reach into Africa without operating their own flights.
