More Water Cuts Starting This Friday

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The fourth phase of water rationing will begin this Friday, and a total of 291 new areas will be hit. Altogether, about 6.7 million people (inclusive of the 235 areas already experiencing water rationing and cuts) will be affected.

The list of new areas affected, released by National Water Services Commission (SPAN), include Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

According to SPAN’s Chairman, Datuk Ismail Kassim, “The fourth phase of water rationing will involve an additional 620,237 households making a total of 1,340,231 households or 6.7 million people.”

The new areas will go through the same two-day-on, two-day-off water supply pattern. Those affected by this water rationing pattern can expect to only receive running water at 4pm on the first day of their two-day pattern. This will continue for 41 hours, before the water is cut off at 9am, two days later. This means that those affected by the rationing will not receive water for 55 hours during water-off days.

Water rationing aside, Selangor has cut the Sungai Selangor dam’s water release from 1.8billion litres a day to just 1 billion litres.
