The stunning visuals and artworks presented at SH/FT exhibition under CENDANA’s Art in the City program is a major effort to attract the younger generation to appreciate the local art scene. Featuring 42 independent local artists, the thematic element centers on the concept of “change”.
Beginning from 1st August until 11th August 2019, over 170 riveting works selected by an expert curator are displayed.
Eccentric and unique, each artwork showcases the facets of modern Malaysians with the message of identity, pop culture, and technology.
According to Izan Satrina Mohd Sallehudin, Founding CEO of CENDANA:
“SH/FT closes one of our campaigns that started in 2018. It is a contemporary-focused effort that contributes to the sustainability of independent artists, collectives, and art associations that are working on their own and require more platforms to showcase their work to the wider public.”
SH/FT is open to the members of the public with free admission. Artworks vary in their forms such as art installations, audiovisual, paintings, and sculptures are presented at this event. Aside from that, visitors are encouraged to interact with some of the artworks and they are certainly open various forms of interpretation. Why not take this chance and polish the art of curating yourself at SH/FT?
Visitors may also discover the experiences of every artist through his or her artwork, from representations of being a woman in contemporary society, to the breakaway of art from any divisive political stance, this will be a dynamic and interesting platform to showcase different perspectives to the public.
This exhibition is an initiative to promote homegrown talented artists’ perspectives about modern day phenomenons. It also helps to widen the network of local artists who are worthy of recognition, and spotlights their unrelenting efforts in sustaining the country’s art industry.
Lead Curator of SH/FT, Sharmin Parameswaran stated, “With the open call for applications, we were pleasantly surprised and encouraged by the artists who applied; they range from painters, graffiti artists, architects, and designers to fashion practitioners and even programmers, each presenting their point of view on living in contemporary Malaysia.”
