Lunar Eclipse and Meteor Shower to Take Place Tonight

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Malaysians might get the chance to catch a total lunar eclipse and meteor shower tonight.

According to The Star, the eclipse will probably last for several hours. Spectators will be able to see a reddish hue on the moon, leading to some people calling it a “blood moon.”

According to the National Space Agency (Angkasa), people in Sabah and Sarawak have the best chance to catch it as they could see a total eclipse. But, sadly, people in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will only be able to catch a glimpse due to light pollution, cloudiness and haze.

The moonrise will begin at around 7pm in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Ipoh and Malacca. It will rise at 6.25pm in Kuching and at 5.59pm in Kota Kinabalu.

Don’t worry about “cosmic radiation” though as lunar eclipses are perfectly safe to watch with the naked eye.

Also, if you are especially lucky, you might be able to catch the Draconid meteor shower. Although Angkasa did warn that there will only be a few meteors this time around.
