What’s interesting is the hoops anti-vaxxers will jump through to obtain a certificate instead of just getting vaccinated.
With the recent announcement that more than 38 percent of the country’s population have already been fully vaccinated, Malaysia is most certainly on the way to reaching its goal of herd immunity in the near future. In just the Klang Valley alone, up to 81.3 percent of residents have already received both doses of their Covid-19 vaccines.
However, with inoculations on a steady rise, reports of the anti-vaxxer crowd looking to illegally obtain vaccination certificates from mutual contacts have also been on an upward trend, particularly with certain ‘perks’ reserved only for those who have been fully vaccinated.
Particularly with dine-in services finally being allowed in restaurants and other eateries, many are keen to venture into public spaces again even if it means using someone else’s vaccination status. What’s even more concerning is the recent emergence of fake digital certificates that are being peddled online.
In response, the Malaysian government has released a mobile application designed to verify the authenticity of digital health certificates. The new app is called Vaccine Certificate Verifier, it was launched just a few days before the rollout of a new update for MySejahtera that now includes some updates to the digital vaccination certificate.
The latest MySejahtera update is currently only available on iOS and Huawei devices for now; Android users might have a bit of a waiting period for the new update.
The main difference with the latest MySejahtera update is a new QR code that needs to be scanned by the Vaccine Verifier App. Also, as with many new updates, expect several glitches to occur until bug fixes are rolled out for a smoother interface experience.
In the meantime, remember that the easiest way to obtain a digital vaccination certificate — and certainly also the safest and most proper way, too — is to simply go and get the jab! The Covid-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free… so help to protect yourself and those around you by getting your certificate legitimately.
