As a bustling metropolitan that is full of concrete buildings, motor vehicles and people moving about, the city of Kuala Lumpur might be the last place one would think of when looking for a nice park. Contrary to what some may believe, KL is actually home to some pretty nice parks, filled with greenery, jogging and biking paths, activity facilities and more.

1. KLCC Park
Located right in the city centre, the KLCC Park is a beautiful place that is rich in greenery and various recreational facilities. The park is a good spot for a temporary retreat from the city atmosphere. Designed by the talented Brazilian master of gardens, the late Roberto Burle Marx, the park spreads over 50 acres of land and houses about 1900 indigenous trees and 66 species of palm trees. The trees planted were specifically chosen to attract local and migratory birds. The park also has specially designed water fountains and sculptures.
Recreational facilities available at the park cater to both adults and children. For children, there is a playground and a children’s pool area whereas for adults, there is a 1.3 km jogging track surrounding the park. The park also provides many other public amenities such as shelters, benches, rest areas, drinking fountains and so on.

2. Taman Jaya Park
As the first park to be built in PJ, this neighbourhood park has been catering to its neighbourhood residents for a long time now.
The park has a lake and is filled with lush greenery, shady trees, shrubs and flowers. Providing a simple and serene atmosphere, the park is an ideal place to enjoy recreational activities such as jogging or walking around the lake, cycling, exercising and so on. Besides that, it also has a children’s playground and picnic tables.
3. Titiwangsa Park
The Titiwangsa Park is another beautiful lake garden in the city of Kuala Lumpur. With its huge lake as its main attraction, the park covers an extensive area of 95 hectares and boasts a variety of recreational facilities that is great for the whole family.
Besides the usual jogging tracks, cycling areas and playgrounds for children, the park also has other facilities such as boating and canoeing facilities, a football field, a badminton court, tennis court and squash court. Interestingly, the park even has a remote control car track and a small equestrian track. There are also various public amenities provided such as benches, food stalls, a pavilion and a stadium.
4. KL Lake Gardens Park
Established in 1888, the Lake Gardens or Perdana Botanical Garden (in Malay), is Kuala Lumpur’s first large-scale recreational park. The park is lush in greenery with sculpted gardens and a wide array of native plants and trees.
Spread over a vast land of 91.6 hectares, the park houses various recreational facilities which include jogging tracks, exercise stations, a children’s playground, and rowing boats and so on. Besides that, the park also has several notable areas for sightseeing such as the orchid garden, the Butterfly Park and deer park. With stunning views of the lake and numerous shady spots, the park is also a good place to picnic.

5. Botanical Gardens, Putrajaya
The Putrajaya Botanical Gardens or Taman Botani (in Malay) is located in the planned city of Putrajaya which is 25km south of Kuala Lumpur. Although the park is not directly within the city of Kuala Lumpur, it is indeed one of the must-see attractions if you are around KL. Sometimes referred to as a “City in the Garden”, Putrajaya actually houses eight major parks with the Putrajaya Botanical Gardens being one of the most favoured amongst visitors.
The park is mostly a vast greenland filled with a variety of plant, tree and flower species planted in designated areas. Some of the plant collections available here are the Canna Walk, Fern Garden, Floral Steps, African Collection, Tropical America Collection, Hibiscus Walk, Bougainvillea Tunnel and Pandanus Walk. Besides that, the park also encourages visitors to hire bicycles for a bike ride, or hop on a boat or tram for an enjoyable ride. There are also a few good spots for picnics.

6. Lembah Kiara Park
Wedged in between the Taman Tun Dr. Ismail district and the KL Golf and Country Club development, the Lembah Kiara Park is yet another beautiful park located within the city of Kuala Lumpur.
Featuring a huge lake with a wide array of recreational facilities such as jogging tracks, exercise stations, a children’s playground and picnic spots, the park is definitely a great place to spend your weekend with family and friends. Visitors to the park will also be able to see monkeys roaming around due to the park’s close proximity to the dense forests of Bukit Kiara. This park consists of a 57-hectare man-made lake where anglers can put their skills to test, jogging and cycling tracks, a children’s playground, a boat house, an observation tower, reflexology facilities, and an open space for kite enthusiasts and picnickers.
