The fares are limited, but offer residents a great way to escape the city while avoiding the usual highway jams.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB, or KTM) has announced a special Chinese New Year ‘Excursion’ Train service, set to operate on 27 and 28 January, in conjunction with the festive season.

In a statement released today, KTMB confirmed that the service will offer two special round trips, with 792 tickets available for the journey connecting KL Sentral Station and Butterworth Station.

“Tickets are on sale starting today, 21 January, from 10 am. The one-way fare is priced from RM60 for superior class seats and RM90 for premier class seats.

“Additionally, passengers can enjoy a unique travel experience with the inclusion of buffet coach and chillax coach facilities, designed to provide a more relaxing and enjoyable journey,” the statement read.

MEETING HOLIDAY TRAVEL DEMANDS

KTMB introduced the service to cater to increased travel demand towards the north during the Chinese New Year celebration and the long school holidays.

The special train will depart from KL Sentral Station and make stops at seven stations: Tanjung Malim, Kampar, Batu Gajah, Ipoh, Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, and Bukit Mertajam, before arriving at its final destination, Butterworth Station.

EASY ACCESS TO TICKETS

Tickets for the excursion train are cashless and can be purchased via several channels, including the KTMB Mobile application (KITS), kiosk machines, ticket counters, and KTMB’s official website, www.ktmb.com.my.

Meanwhile, KTMB Group Chief Executive Officer Rani Hisham expressed hope that the special service would help ease road congestion during the festive period and provide a more comfortable travel option, particularly for elderly passengers and children.
