Patients admitted for dengue are usually checked if they have a leakage of blood plasma from their capillaries. But, according to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), doctors should also look out for four other symptoms; abdominal pains, bleeding from the nose or gums and blood in the stool, vomiting three times or more in 24 hours, and if young patients feel extraordinarily weak or lethargic.

Those who have the symptoms above should immediately seek treatment and get a blood test. According to an article in The Star, in recent times, doctors in HKL have begun to intervene even before a patent’s fever subsided, especially when patients have the symptoms mentioned above. If treated early, the dengue shock syndrome may be avoided.
