The Expat Wine Dinner at Madisons

Diners who gathered at Madisons for the August Wine Dinner were lucky enough to visit one of the newest restaurants in town, and as they arrived into the smart dining area to nibble canapés and sip refreshing glasses of De Martino Estate Sauvignon Blanc, the charming décor and chilled ambiance earned nods of approval.

Australian chef Kelly Delaney had prepared a menu to showcase her talents to the first-timers, and the entrée of Seared Scallop and Pork Belly Croquettes was a meaty, textural delight, especially when complemented by the ruby red intensity of the Villa Sandi Cuvée Di Cabernet Sauvignon e Franc IGT.

Decisions had to be made for the main course, and while many were wooed by the Lamb Rump that came pretty as a picture with its fennel purée, the Spiced Duck Breast was a tongue tantaliser thanks to the accompanying parsnip purée, blood orange and balsamic jelly, and blended dates. The full-bodied Lushrush Shiraz was the ideal companion to either dish, and ensured that plates were empty and faces were smiling.

There is no better way to end than with a sweet and satisfying dessert, and the selection of petit fours and desserts from the main menu that appeared from the kitchen looked too good to be true. Chocolate and Hazelnut Dacquoise, Tirimasu, Crema Fritta; it was a plate of sinful pleasure, and the Moscatel Ainzon lent its brilliance and ensured that the evening ended on a high note.
