When walking into Silver Spoon @ Publika, you are immediately struck by the laid-back vibe of this eatery. Outdoor seating and soft Spanish music lend a European-like feel, while the wooden panelling indoors provides a touch of warmth – perfect for a tipple and a bite after work.
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Silver Spoon Trattoria, the restaurant opened its doors in Publika in July 2012 under the watchful eye of Chef Ken Wong. Wong, having returned to Malaysia after a stint in Australia is keen to introduce fusion Italian food to the Malaysian market, and the menu proves he’s done just that.
Start off with Arranchini di Riso, lightly fried mushroom and mozzarella rice balls that are paired with a rich marinara sauce, before heading to the Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Bruschetta for a refreshing alternative to the usual, tomato-based version. Special mention goes to the Baked Escargot A’la Bourguignone, French vineyard snails baked in creamy garlic-and-herb butter; a definite must-try despite sporting a dearer price tag.
Proving how well the fusion theme works, the Spaghetti with Shrimp Tom Yam Ragu is a winner. Served with grilled prawns, the light .ai flavours of this dish are very much suited to those with an Asian palette. Silver Spoon also does a number of gourmet pizzas with interesting combinations, including a Smoked Duck and Pear pizza with a sweet hoisin sauce base.
Seafood features prominently throughout the menu and a particular highlight was the Grilled Crisp-Skinned Norwegian Salmon Fillet. Grilled to perfection, the salmon is served with a leek and mushroom risotto cake, radicchio salad, and a dill butter sauce that is absolutely heavenly.
After all the delectable mains, it is often tough to fit in dessert, but the eatery’s signature creamy Tiramisu, filled in a rich marscapone mousse, sponge fingers, and coffee liquer, is a dish not to be missed.
Silver Spoon has an extensive drinks menu (including an array of signature iced teas) and a well-stocked bar, with up to 30 different types of mojitos on the list. .e Pimms Mojito is a refreshing mix of Pimms, white rum, lime juice, and mint, making it a popular choice with customers taking refuge from the humidity. .e Monster Mojito lives up to its name in so many ways – with a grand total of 5 shots in the cocktail, it is best not to drive after a few of these! Silver Spoon also has a great 1-for-1 deal during Happy Hour (from 6pm onwards), but make sure you get there before the after-office crowd descends for a drink and a bite as the sun sets.
