Rexperience Launches Third Season “Twilight” with Immersive Artistry
- This event has passed.
Rexperience (RXP.KL), the largest immersive art space in Malaysia, is excited to unveil its third season, titled “Twilight,” on 9 August 2024. This season merges tradition with modernity, blending emotion with technology, and the past with the future. The exhibition showcases the innovative work of both local and international artists, offering visitors a unique experience that explores the intersections of art and technology.
“Twilight” opens with “Hanya Batik,” a captivating exhibit that takes visitors on a journey through Malaysian history. The exhibit, created by artists Arif Rafhan, Fahmi Hosnan, Ian Kit, and Cuurley, intertwines traditional batik art with contemporary digital storytelling. The narrative weaves together elements of everyday life, historic milestones, and cultural celebrations, connecting Malaysia’s rich pastoral heritage with its dynamic present.
Another highlight is “Geometry of Emotion,” a sensory exploration by Fabien Bouchard and Mathieu Pernaud. This exhibit uses real-time projections and spatialised sound to delve into the emotional landscapes shaped by digital data, encouraging visitors to reflect on their relationship with technology.
Visitors can also experience the fusion of dance, electronic music, and generative video in “Escape,” a performance by Colas Fiszman and Laurent Delforge. This multidisciplinary exploration synchronises dancers’ movements with dynamic projections, offering a thought-provoking look at contemporary societal themes and self-identity.
Sebastien Jurkowski, CEO and Creative Director of RXP.KL, expressed his excitement about the new season, stating, “With ‘Twilight,’ we aim to nurture a creative pipeline in Malaysia while deepening the community’s exposure to immersive art. This season gathers Malaysian and international artists to create a unique, collaborative environment that honours the storied past of REX Cinema in Kuala Lumpur.”
Since its inception, Rexperience has been committed to making art accessible, offering free entry and advanced technologies to foster artistic collaboration. This year, Rexperience introduces exclusive, one-day-only workshops led by “Twilight” artists.
Among the workshops, Colas Fiszman will lead “Introduction to Immersive Experience with TouchDesigner,” which is designed for artists, designers, and technologists eager to explore the convergence of art and technology. Participants will learn how to create interactive and generative visuals, ideal for installations and performances.
Fabien Bouchard will conduct the workshop “Unlocking Interactivity for Installations and Experiences,” where participants can learn how to add interactivity to their art projects using TouchDesigner and Unreal Engine. Fabien’s work, known for navigating the interface between technology and human sensitivity, has been exhibited in major cities such as Paris, Dubai, and New York.
Jurkowski further elaborated, “Our artist-led workshops are integral to our mission to be a conservatory for digital artistic talent here in Malaysia, by providing opportunities to explore and innovate in this burgeoning discipline.”
These workshops are scheduled for 5th August 2024, and seats can be reserved at the Rexperience website. This is an invaluable opportunity for aspiring creatives to enhance their skills and connect with like-minded individuals.
Rexperience has consistently captivated audiences with its previous exhibitions. The inaugural exhibit, “Other World,” transported visitors through cosmic, natural, urban, and abstract dimensions, redefining traditional art-viewing experiences. The second season, “Piying Dream,” featured over 3,000 digital shadow puppets, blending Chinese shadow play with modern digital projection to create a mesmerizing journey.
Early bird tickets for “Twilight” are available until 9th August at the Rexperience website. The exhibition is recommended for children aged 7 and above, and offers an immersive experience that will engage visitors of all ages.
