What brought you to Malaysia and how long have you been here?
My wife and I came in 2003 for a two-year contract but we ended up extending, and we continue to do so!
What were your impressions of Malaysia before you came?
The only reference I had of Malaysia prior to moving here was from the TV series Sandokan: The Malaysian Tiger that was broadcast in Venezuela, so I always thought Malaysia was very rural. I now see Kuala Lumpur as one of the most sophisticated cities in Southeast Asia.
How easily did you adapt to living in a new country?
In the beginning it was hard because cultures and ways of thinking here are so different from Venezuela. It took around a year to find our feet and start finding our place here.
What are the three things you like most about living in Malaysia?
I like the food, the fact that life is affordable, and I love the tropical climate.
What three things do you wish you could change about Malaysia?
I would change Malaysian drivers, stop people littering, and do something about the city planning, especially in terms of traffic and public transport.
Do you frequent any restaurants offering food of your homeland?
Unfortunately, there are no Venezuelan restaurants that I know of in Kuala Lumpur, so I have to rely on my own cooking.
Do you own property here? If so, where?
Yes, we own an apartment close to KLCC.
Are most of your friends Malaysians or expats? Why?
My friends are both; I enjoy the company of many nationalities.
