The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) has declared 14 August as Internet Blackout Day, to protest against a recently passed law. This new law states that internet users are presumed guilty for content posted through their sites, registered networks or date processing devices.
On 14 August, internet users will encounter pop-up blockers detailing the campaign when visiting participating websites, but will still be able to use the website.
On that day, netizens are encouraged to change their profile photos to black for the day, to show support and create awareness in Malaysia.
