What were your impressions of Malaysia before you came?
My first thought was, "Where the hell is that?" I am now pleased to report that my knowledge of Asia has increased exponentially and after a brief ìwhat the?!î few months, I now love Malaysia!
What words sum up Malaysia for you?
Vibrant, chaotic, and exciting, with a "can lah" attitude thrown in.
Where would you take an overseas visitor?
I would take them to Nasi Kandar Pelita in Bangsar for yummy roti, and then to the KL Craft Complex for a batik painting session. We would also go to Melaka for a night to experience rickshaws and some
Malaysian culture.
What do you dislike about living in Malaysia?
I don't like the constant humidity. I also dislike the expensive alcohol and dodgy driving (though I seem to be coping well with the latter).
What do you miss most about home?
From our time in London, I miss taking the kids to the park for a few hours to play and then having Sunday lunch with friends and family in the local pub garden.
What do you like to do at the weekend?
I like swimming with the family. We also go down for "Wheelie Sundays" at Publika, where the whole family can grab a free bicycle or bring their own scooters and cycle on the outside roads (it is closed to traffic) with other families. The bonus is that it's mainly shaded, and you can stop at any of the numerous coffee shops and restaurants for breakfast! Finally – yes even in this heat – we all love our Sunday roast dinner.
What is your favourite restaurant in Malaysia?
I like Opus (on Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar) and SOULed Out (in Sri Hartamas), but there are many many many.
Are your friends mainly expats or locals?
My friends are mostly expats.
