According to the Malaysian Insider, expat corporate leaders have welcomed the Malaysian government’s offer of the Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T) status, which will allow them to work in Malaysia for 10 years.

CEO of Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) Johan Mahmood Merican announced that to date, more than 1000 RP-T passes have been approved since it was launched in April 2011.

The Star also reported that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had personally offered Residence RP-T status to 21 corporate leaders, including foreign investors and experts in their respective fields. These corporate leaders are said to represent corporations in key sectors such as business services, oil and gas, financial services and education.

According to Johan, expat corporate leaders are pleased that the RP-T offers them security of tenure especially if they plan to stay in Malaysia for a long time and work with local talents to improve their skills.

One of the expat corporate leaders, Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of Legoland Malaysia commented that there should be some sort of cooperation between an industry and university to help strengthen the skills of students. This can easily be done with a well-planned human resource programme between both the industry and university, to ensure that students can sharpen their skills before graduating and entering the work force.

According to a report on Bernama, Google Malaysia Country Manager Sajith Sivanandan, commented that it is best to get foreign talents to come in and train the local talents to meet the critical skills requirements, and drive foreign direct investments in line with the Economic Transformation Programme.
