How long have you lived in Malaysia?
I have been here eight years.
What were your impressions of Malaysia before you came?
I’d never been to Malaysia until 2004 but now I am here, I love how it’s so incredibly diverse. I feel very lucky to be living here.
How easily did you adapt to living in a new country?
As soon as I arrived in KL I joined an Expat Association called, MANZA (Malaysian, Australian, and New Zealand Association ) and before too long I was a full-time volunteer. This organisation raises money for six wonderful charities. Being involved with MANZA was a fantastic way for me to meet a lot of great people in a short period of time.
Has life in Malaysia given you the chance to try anything new?
KL has given me some wonderful opportunities. I have gained a lot of experience in running events. I was previously on the events team for MANZA and got to organise many functions with some wonderful people. I also started doing young family photography a few years ago as well. Before living in KL, I always worked full time, but now I love being busy with my part-time hobbies. I am now busier than I ever was back in Australia!
Do you have any animals?
I adopted a street cat about four years ago. I was at dinner with a friend of mine, and this cat kept hanging around us; it even fell asleep on my foot. My friend had cats already, so she helped me bathe the kitten and so on. By the next morning my cat was taking over my apartment and her name is now on the lease!
What are the four things you like most about living in Malaysia?
I like my lovely new friends; I like the culture; I love my noisy Malaysian Cat; and I love how close Malaysia is to many stunning countries.
What do you miss most about your home country?
I miss my twin sister.
What one memory will you always treasure when/if you come to leave Malaysia?
I will remember my wonderful friends; they are like my family!
