Bernama reports that beginning 2013, the public will be able to lodge their police reports online, via an online portal. According to Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, the online police report portal was in the final stage of being prepared.
"This is one of the police efforts to facilitate the public. They can make the report wherever they are, just by using the Internet," he said.
The portal was being developed by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu).
According to Bernama, the Deputy Inspector General said there were still several matters currently being assessed. This includes the legal aspects and its effectiveness, and how to ensure the validity of the reports received.
"We believe this online police report portal will facilitate the public (to make reports) because the majority of the people are using gadgets and smart phones with Internet access, which is also time-saving," he said.
