Datuk Lee Chong Wei, world number one men’s singles shuttler, has clinched his ninth Malaysian Open title, at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Sunday, 20 January.
In the final match of the Malaysian Open, Chong Wei who is the top seed, managed to defeat Sony Dwi Kuncoro from Indonesia, who is the eighth seed, with a 21-7 and 21-8 win in 32 minutes.
Previously, Chong Wei had won the Malaysian Open title in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. This means that Chong Wei broke the record previously held by Wong Peng Soon, who won the men’s singles category of the same tournament eight times (1940, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1953).
