Use Public Transport When Travelling During Chinese New Year

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Chinese New Year is just a few days away and many are planning, or have planned their journey back to their hometowns, while those who aren’t celebrating will most likely take advantage of the long holiday to travel within Malaysia. For all those who have plans to travel, it might be best to take busses or trains instead of driving.

According to Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, travelling via public transport will help to ease the massive traffic congestion which is expected to take place. This will also reduce the loss of lives due to accidents, as public transports, especially buses, have been proven to be less involved in fatal accidents compared to other vehicles during all festive seasons last year.

"Records of the Royal Malaysia Police showed zero road fatalities during 'the Ops Sikap 25' road safety operation last year while of the 6,917 cases of accidents reported in the operation, only 32 cases involved buses, “he told Bernama.

Although they may be some who doubt this fact, Datuk Kong explained that the Road Transport Department enforcement personnel will be conducting checks at bus depots and terminals all over Malaysia (some will be disguised as passengers) to detect any offenses committed by the drivers. The police will also be sending out their members to monitor over 150 accident black spots identified across Malaysia in their Ops Selamat II road safety operation in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
