“The Japanese Embassy to Malaysia has advised the public to be wary of bogus organisations offering the Japanese government or Monbukagakusho scholarships via email and on the internet”, Bernama wrote.
The Embassy says it has received reports from several Japanese embassies in Africa that unidentified groups had been asking for deposit payments for the scholarship applications.
According to a statement released by the Japanese Embassy, the Monbukagakusho scholarship applications are processed only by Japanese embassies and consulate generals, or Japanese universities. The statement clarified that Japanese diplomatic missions abroad will never ask for any deposit or guarantee deposit to be made for the scholarship applications.
Those in Malaysia who are keen to apply for the Japanese government scholarship should do so by getting the correct information from the Japanese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
