We’ve had many enquiries from expat’s on the process of purchasing a Permanent Residency (PR) Status in Malaysia, and which agency provides this service. To clear the matter up, PR cannot be bought.
To acquire a PR, there is a formal application that needs to be filled with certain processes and restrictions. To find out the proper way of acquiring a PR, you will need to contact the Malaysian Immigration Department, who handles the issuance of PR status – among other things – to foreign nationals visiting, residing or working in Malaysia.
You do not need to go through an agency to apply for your PR. Visit the official Malaysian Immigration website or call them up at 03-80008000. You will need to fill in an application form to the Immigration Department of Malaysia in Putrajaya, or any State Immigration Office. There are a few other requirements after that, but from what we know, it is not an easy task to acquire a Malaysian PR.
Be wary of agencies that approach you offering permanent residency status for a small price, as they may be scamming you no matter how legitimate they appear. It is always best to go straight to the Immigration Department.
