Harlem Shake Malaysian Style

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Its official, people have finally given up their fixation on Psy’s Oppa Gangnam Style, because they now have a new “craze” to fixate on, the Harlem Shake.

The Harlem Shake is an internet craze that popped up early February 2013. In just a few short weeks, people all over the world have taken to re-creating and uploading their own version of the Harlem Shake on YouTube.

What is the Harlem Shake?

Early February 2013, a group of bored teenagers from Australia decided to create a video as a follow-up to someone else’s video on a song called the Harlem Shake. The song is by an electronic musician called Baauer.

The concept of the video is simple, one person in the video is first seen (this person usually has a mask or helmet on) dancing to the Harlem Shake song for a few seconds, while those around him appear to be completely oblivious to the person dancing. In the next shot, everyone in the video is seen dancing in a crazy manner by themselves or while holding some kind of prop.  This has somehow caught on and become an internet craze.

The Harlem Shake:

In Malaysia alone, people from radio DJ’s, celebrities and college students have created their own version of the Harlem Shake. Below are a few Malaysian-style versions of the Harlem Shake.
