No More Roadside Hawkers in Kuala Lumpur by 2020

Yes, as terrible as it sounds, by the year 2020, Kuala Lumpur will no longer have roadside hawkers.

Bernama wrote that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall will be relocating roadside hawkers to a more orderly place to conduct their business. According to Deputy Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister, Datuk M. Saravanan, this was in line with the objective of making Kuala Lumpur an international standard city.

"One of the criteria to become a world class city is that there will be no more hawkers on the street,” he told Bernama.

"So city folk need to understand that come 2020, there will no more traders by the roadside and the government has taken positive measures to provide special trading areas in the federal capital for the hawkers involved.”
