The government announced a major crack down on crime a few years ago and we have seen a lot more police and police cars on the streets but how effective is the effort? There seems little doubt that the police are making considerable effort to address the problem but many Malaysians are questioning the success of the various initiatives. There seem to be a growing feeling that certain types of crime are getting worse in Malaysia, or at least not improving. The New York Times recently reported that Malaysia no longer reports crime statistics to the United Nations. We have seen no rebuttal of this or an explanation why they have stopped.
