The Malaysian Government is going all out to curb the rising number of dengue cases. At the moment, 10 dengue hot spots (locations will be made public at a later date) will see a combination fogging to kill adult mosquitoes and their larvae. The fogging will take place for four weeks straight.
According to Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, the weekly combination fogging mechanism combines a simultaneous use of insecticide and temephos. The fogging is set to commence this week.
On the 2nd of March, the health ministry will organise a clean-up of all the 10 hotspots. This will involve the participation on local authorities and neighbourhood watch.
Cases of dengue have been alarmingly rising over the past few weeks. Based on ministry data, there is an increase in dengue cases as of last week, jumping by 68 cases from the, 197 cases recorded the week before. This totals the number of dengue cases this year to 13,915. So far, six people have died from dengue last week. The total number of dengue deaths so far is 25 cases for this year.
At this point in time, Selangor has the highest number of dengue cases this year with 7,507 cases. Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya recorded 1,395 cases. Perak has 966 cases, Johor has 943 cases and Negeri Sembilan has 858 cases.
