The Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) was in a state of disarray yesterday evening when countless passengers had to wait for hours for immigration clearance, because, according to some passengers, only three counters were opened.

At around 4.30pm, more immigration officers were deployed to handle the surge of passengers. There were also complains that the escalators and air-conditioning were out of order. Many passengers were also confused as to which queue was meant for passengers with Malaysian passports.

The delay in immigration also caused a delay in luggage collection and custom clearance with some passengers taking more than an hour to exit the airport.

According to a comment by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd senior general manager (operations division) Datuk Azmi Murad, there were 17 immigration counters opened. He said the congestion was probably due to the surge of passengers during peak hours (between 3pm and 5pm).
