Malaysia Airlines has imposed a new limit for check-in baggage on its flights starting today. Passengers are now limited to two pieces of check-in baggage, and they are also subjected to a lower maximum luggage weight; 30kg in total for Economy, 40kg in total for Business and 50kg in total for First Class.
Previously, the two-piece baggage restriction only applied to MAS flights departing for, or arriving from, North and South America. Although, passengers on these flights had a generous weight limitation of 46kg per pair of luggage in total for Economy and Business, and 64kg per pair in total for First Class.
Before, passengers could check-in as many pieces of baggage as they wanted, as long as they adhered to the total weight limitations.
Those who exceeded the weight limitations for flights within the peninsula, Sabah or Sarawak will be fined RM45 for every 5kg exceeded. Those flying between the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak will be fined RM55 per 5kg exceeded. Those on international flights will be fined RM70 per 5kg for Asean destinations and RM170 per 5kg for European destinations.
The new restrictions and regulations mentioned above will not apply to MAS code-share flights that use aircraft from other airlines.
