Have you paid your taxes yet? If the answer is no, it is best you do it as soon as possible, or you might be barred from leaving the country.
The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will blacklist those who have not paid their taxes so that they can’t leave the country until they settle the amount owed, no matter how small it is. They (IRB) have engaged support from the Immigration Department to enforce a “travel blacklist.”
According to a report in The Star, the IRB officers have been busy tracking down tax evaders, even those who owe as little as RM200, to pay their dues. Just this year, the IRB has successfully collected RM8.37 mil from those planning on leaving the country.
So, it doesn’t matter if you are leaving the country for a holiday, for work or to relocate. You will not be allowed to leave if you have evaded your tax.
