Let the young artists of Garden International School (GIS) captivate you with their talent at their annual Art Exhibition from 2nd June to 17th June between 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays. After the overwhelming success of last year’s show, GIS is proudly hosting its second show with a display of truly outstanding creative artworks.
The artworks on display promises to be a feast for the eyes with ambitious large scale and original works including paintings, sculptures, ceramics and textiles. This year’s display consists of the talented works of 22 A Level students and 33 IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) students.
There is no doubt that visitors to the exhibition will be impressed by the works of these young artists, which represents precision efforts and high standards. Some of the highlights this time include: a beautiful 7-foot sculpture based upon architectural forms by Ahana Basu; installation of 11 monolithic towers by Soraya Baharum; triptych in silk paints with embroidery based upon the domes of KL by Harinderpal Kaur and many more outstanding pieces using a variety of media.
A strong emphasis in this year’s show is the collaborative work between practising artists and students. Nine A Level candidates contacted artists, visited their studios, interviewed them and worked with them. This has resulted in some excellent work and proved to be a fantastic learning experience for them. The artists involved included Jalaini Abu Hassan, Anuar Dan, Eston Tan, Ahmad Shukri, Amron Omar and Chong Siew Ying.
Studying at Garden International School, students are exposed to diverse cultures and often, this exposure inspires some of the artworks by our young talents. Lauren Haslam, a British student living in KL, produced a diptych of two 8-foot mixed media paintings portraying cultural influences of both Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Haslam’s work of art is influenced by Malaysian artist, Jalaini Abu Hassan, whose work she studied in detail after meeting the artist. George Amos who worked with British sculptor, Richard Farrington, during the summer holidays will display a cinema installation multimedia documentary on this sculptor who has been so influential in George’s own work.
Dawn Beasley, Head of Art & Design Faculty at GIS said, “We are immensely proud of our students and are delighted that so many of them are going on to study art at a higher level at top art and architectural universities around the world.”
Both talent and ambition are evident amongst these young artists. Their work is showcased in this extraordinary exhibition which is a major event in the students’ life at school, at the same time inspiring younger students and visitors from other schools.
