Travellers can add another mode of transportation to their list of options from tomorrow onwards as a new two-tier taxi system will allow city budget taxis along with executive cabs to pick up passengers from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Individuals opting to utilize this new service should head to Level 1 at the main terminal while those who still wish to enjoy the comforts of the limousine service can still head to Level 3.
Chairman of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), Tan Sri Syed Hamir Albar, notes “those who choose to use the budget taxis will have to pay RM2 for a coupon and will be directed by marshals to their respective taxis,” as mentioned in a New Straits Times article.
The coupon system enables relevant authorities to ensure the safety of passengers and take necessary action if the budget taxis fail to adhere to rules such as using the meter from the beginning of the journey, as the taxi’s information will be recorded by a queue manager.
‘With the implementation of this system, waiting time for taxis can be reduced significantly from one hour to not more than 10 minutes during the normal period,” the Chairman said.
The Land Public Transport Commission further reminds budget taxi drivers to keep their vehicles in good conditions to see to the comfort and safety of passengers.
The two-tier taxi system will also be implemented at KLIA2 once it starts operations.
