Smoking will soon be banned at the park in Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya. Located opposite Amcorp Mall, the move to ban smoking is to ensure a healthier environment for visitors to the park.
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will soon begin an awareness campaign before implementing the new ruling.
The ban is expected to be enforced beginning October 2013. Once the ban has been enforced, those caught smoking at the park will be fined RM50.
According to Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad, Mayor of Petaling Jaya, the reason for the ban is to discourage people from smoking and to make sure the youth are not influenced.
“We are not out to stigmatise smoking. Smokers will not be allowed to light up in certain areas for health and environment reasons. Our vision is to have a tobacco-free generation that will reap health and economic benefits,” she said.
