Instead of using the current Smart Tag device to easily and swiftly pass through toll booths, the government is now looking into the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) stickers.

These stickers will feature a barcode and can be fixed on your windshield. It is supposedly also cheaper and more affordable compared to a Smart Tag device.

“This requires the cooperation of many parties, including all stakeholders and highway concessionaires. Public feedback is also important,” said Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof.

According to the minister, enforcing the use of RFID is not enough as it must first be accepted by all parties. Concessionaires should also strive to improve the electronic payment system to ensure that the RFID stickers will be truly beneficial to all users.

According to the Malay Mail, Plus Sdn Bhd is currently testing the RFID stickers at the Putra Heights toll plaza, with payments made online.

Do you think the RFID stickers will be better than the current Smart Tag device?
