Expats recently enjoyed a superlative chef-created meal paired with some excellent French wines at Malaysia’s respected Le Cordon Bleu culinary academy in Bandar Sunway. Each of the wines was specially selected by wine expert David Stephan from Wine Talk, and with the food fare being prepared under the masterful hands of European chefs from Le Cordon Bleu, hopes were high for a grand culinary experience. As the evening got underway, guests enjoyed a selection of delectable canapés and welcome drinks, chatting amiably in anticipation of the impending meal. The appetizer selection included a hot foie gras quenelle, white mushroom and asparagus fricassee, and a duck consomme solferino, all complemented by a crisp Arthur Metz Pinot Gris from France’s Alsace region. For one of the main dish choices, steamed cod with a mini ratatouille was served with a star anise sauce and fennel waffle, and paired with a lovely Gerard Bertrand Viognier from the Languedoc in the South of France. For diners who opted for the braised beef cheek entrée with glazed carrots and daikon, their meal was paired with a Château Siffle-Merle from the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Finally, as the well-sated guests’ attention turned to dessert, the chefs from Le Cordon Bleu presented a plated strawberry vacherin and petits fours.Âough everyone enjoyed the meal and wines, six lucky guests also won a bottle each of French wine to take home with them. It was a special wine dinner, and we extend a big “thank you” to all who attended!
